ITALY Snug Cottage for romantic winter break Gelso Cottage At the end of a country road in the beautiful Sibillini National Park, one finds Il Gelso, a traditional farmhouse in a splendid panoramic position with breathtaking views of the Sibillini Mountains. In the grounds of the villa there is a cottage which is now available for winter rental whilst the villa is closed up. Because the cottage is snug with a fireplace and central heating we can offer guests the chance to fully experience life in one of the most beautiful parts of the region of Le Marche during the winter months - Perfect for a romantic christmas! . Gelso cottage has been recently restored maintaining the original materials of the hay loft. Beams, cotto floors, and warm colours. Both bedrooms feature antique beds, and the cottage is furnished with some pieces of antique furniture. Location Il Gelso is half way between the two interesting regional capitals, Macerata and Ascoli Piceno, each only 40km away by lovely routes. Macerata is a pleasant old university city. The Palazzo Ricci houses a very fine collection of Italian contemporary art (view by appointment) Ascoli Piceno, important in Roman and Renaissance times, repays exploration with its fine palazzi and churches, an interesting Pinacoteca and medieval quarter, a superb Roman bridge, and one of the nicest Piazza in Italy, "Piazza del Popolo". Exuberance is still shown here in the evening passeggiata, visit the famous Cafe Meletti and the winter antique fairs. Fermo is another handsome, interesting town deserving a visit, with some interesting shops, museums and bars. Il Gelso is at the centre of a lively and inviting area. Amandola (3km) is attractive, with good shops and pizzerie.Sarnano (6km) is a picturesque village with some good churches and shops, drive up to Sassotetto to the skiing in winter. The whole region is full of unexpected gems: Roman ruins, fine abbeys and Romanesque churches; the Renaissance art treasures of San Severino Marche; enticing villages like San Ginesio, Montefortino, Monte San Martino and Montemonaco. ..
